Reno Air Races… Reach for the Sky!

 The smell of jet fuel, the intensity of sub-sonic speed, the danger, the drama, the excitement… it can all mean just one thing, the Reno Air Races! Anyone who has ever been to an air race, or an air show, knows very well what I mean. Even the trip to the Reno Air Races will generate enough heartbeats of excitement as much as a triple latte will. Nothing compares to the sight of high speed aircraft, rushing through the air in max speeds, doing incredibly dangerous stunts, all in the name of entertainment! People from all walks of life, young and old, flock to the Reno Air Races every year to experience the thrill that only an air race can give.

Held just once a year, the Reno Air Races offers the chance to see aerobatic performers and exhibits.  For the first-timer, the Reno Air Races will prove to be an overwhelming event. With so much to do, and a whole lot more to see, the first-timer’s experience can be described much like that as a kid in a candy store. Yet without any prior knowledge as to what to expect to see and witness, only adds to the fuel of the fire of curiosity within the first-timer. After a while though, when the newbie finally grasps what is happening, even just the basics, will the newbie finally appreciate the beauty of it all. Especially for speed freaks, the air races offer the spectator glimpses of breathtaking skill in maneuvering aircraft in high speed and aviation virtuosity at its finest. After the initial “dumbstrickenness,” the newbies, even the old-timers will also get a chance to observe up close the flying machines and even talk to the pilots. 

Talking to the pilots can be a real humbling experience as they tell you the tricks of their trade and relate to you how it feels like to be way up in the clouds risking life and limb for the entertainment of the crowds below. After talking to the pilots and checking out their personal aircraft, visiting the various exhibits is the next viable recourse. Make sure that you are wearing your most comfortable of footwear since the exhibits are spread far apart from each other, and to be able to visit all the air races has to offer, one must be prepared to walk the entire course of the runway! 

The Reno Air Races will surely leave an indelible mark on you and probably make a fan out of you even. By the way, I almost forgot to mention, do not under no circumstances leave your camera at home. You’ll understand what I mean once you get there.
