Costa Rica Fishing

Two great oceans, the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, and with magnificent inland lakes and rivers, there is no place in the world that has a better year-round fishing than Costa Rica. Costa Rica fishing has some of the best fishing for more sorts at any time of the year than you’re expected to find in such a small and easily reachable area anywhere else in the world.

From the capital city of Costa Rica, San Jose, fishing lovers are only thirty to forty minutes away from the major fishing regions on the Caribbean and Pacific coasts, with two national airlines that provide daily service. There’s not a place in the country that fishermen can’t reach within three to six hours of drive time.

Costa Rica fishing reputation for incredible fishing is well-justified, but like nay other fishing place in the globe, there are never any guarantees where actions vary with the weather, seasons, prevailing winds, currents, and other natural forms at any given time.

The Northern Pacific Coast’s great fishing site is the Cabo Blanco to the Gulf of Papagayo. The Flamingo Beach in the area has full-service marina and nearby Nosara, Samara, Tamarindo, and Playa are the centers of sports fishing in this area. Some of the types of fish caught in this area but again depending on natural conditions and season are Marlin, Sailfish, Tuna, Dorado, Wahoo, and Roosterfish.

On the Central Pacific Region at Cabo Blanco to Drake Bay, Quepos is Costa Rica fishing center in this area with fifty or more efficiently equipped boats in the 27-feet-and-up-range. Smaller boats are also available which are suitable for an excellent inshore positioning in the area. It’s not often that boats run more than 12-20 miles to the blue waters where most billfish feat is found. There are also boats out of Quepos that offer multi-day trips to the Drake Bay which is well-known for its Wahoo, Roosterfish, and big Cubera. Tuna, Dorado, Marlin, and sails can also be found here.

The Southern Pacific Coast at the Golfito and Playa Zancud are also great Costa Rica fishing sights. Golfito is the activity center of the southern coast of Costa Rica and it’s a rare day if during peak season boats don’t raise a dozen sails along with a catch of a Marlin or two, plenty of jacks, runners, mackerel, and possibly amberjack, roosterfish, or big snapper inshore. Inside the bay off Golfito, fishermen can light-tackle fishing with its abundance of small coves and rocky islets. Offshore are best for small barracuda and snapper, corbina, and sometimes snook to more than forty pounds.

The Caribbean Coast fishing can vary more from one day to another than from month to month, but the fish are year round and it’s only a matter of weather than can change overnight and make your fishing trip a little slow. Overall, Costa Rica fishing is still the most excellent fishing sights around the world.
