Reno Employment

 Reno Employment

As glamorous and as bustling as the city itself, Reno employment thrives with a quality workforce, and have been regarded as one of the twenty-one Five Star Cities in the U.S. based on income, population, and employment trends. Reno employment has the second highest number of companies in Northern Nevada which is in the Scientific and Technical industries. The workforce includes a growing foundation of highly skilled workers.

Some of the biggest contributors to Reno employment are the hotel-casino industry. These companies have brought the largest number of employment, reaching about 222,900 reported before the national recession. The increase of Reno employment in hotel-casino industry has not kept pace with the strong job growth most other employment sectors in Nevada has experience throughout the past years. The gaming industry’s employment enhanced by only 3.3 percent between January 2002 and March 2005, while total employment in the state increased by 17.5 percent.

With the exception of the information industry, all of the major industry groups, has created new jobs in the past year and has amplified Reno employment. The information industry that includes telecommunications lost nine hundred jobs during the past year, affecting the sector’s recession since 2001. The industrial groups which have had significant Nevada employment gains include:

Leisure and Hospitality, which includes entertainment and recreation, arts, accommodations, food services and drinking places, accommodations, casino hotels and gaming, reports sixteen-thousand-two-hundred new jobs;

Professional and Business Services, which includes professional, administrative and support and waste management, scientific and technical, and employment services, reports eleven-thousand-eight-hundred new jobs;

Government which includes Federal, state, and local employment, reports five-thousand-eight-hundred new jobs;

Other services such as repair and maintenance, personal and laundry services, reports five-thousand-six-hundred new jobs;

Education and Health Services such as health care and social assistance, hospitals, and educational services, reports four-thousand-six hundred new jobs;

And Financial Activities which includes credit intermediation, finance and insurance, real estate and rental leasing, reports three-thousand-four-hundred new jobs.

On top of the strong employment growth, Nevada’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate is four percent, which is an impressive 1.2 percent points lower than the state. Surveys from households’ show that the Las Vegas-Paradise Metropolitan Statistical Area’s (MSAs), Clark County, non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was untouched at four percent, which is six-tenths of a percentage point lower than a year ago; the Reno-Sparks MSAs, Washoe and Storey counties, April jobless rate is projected at 3.6 percent, which is one-tenth down of a percentage lower than a year ago; the Carson City MSA unemployment was accounted at 4.8 percent, two-tenths down over the month and five-tenths percentage lower than April 2004; and the Elko Metropolitan Area, Elko and Eureka counties, reported unemployment at 3.4 percent, which is down one-tenth of a percentage over the month and two-tenths percentage point over the year.

Reno is the heart of commerce and culture in northern Nevada, and is “America’s Adventure Place”, a great city to work in, with over 200,000 residents who take pleasure in the high dessert valley on the eastern slope of the Sierra.
